Margaret Proctor (Ernst)

Artist Statement
Margaret’s work is an eccentric and unique high-kitsch mixed media art and sculptural exploration of animal forms inspired by fables, mythology, history and traditional art works.

Each piece is extensively researched prior to execution to ensure artistic authenticity. Members of the Cat Family are predominant themes, but other animals such as camels, meerkats, peacocks, owls, lions and unicorns make regular appearances.

Her pieces include art jewellery (with cat or animal themes), cat icons, wildlife wall masks, large mixed media and clay sculptures, soft sculptures – some life size – textile wall art with clay figures, beaded mosaics, hand painted and embroidered book covers and bags.

Current projects and new challenges include crocodiles, masks and sculptures for an upcoming solo exhibition at TAFTA’s Gallery 159 and her new and all-consuming passion for medieval style papier-mache art pieces, heraldic bags and book wraps, Venetian style masks, mirrors, falcons and horses.
